installing adobe flash 10
« on: August 30, 2010, 11:20:58 AM »
hi guys,

i am unable to watch youtube videos with my tinycore (installed on hard drive) installation.
i have installed from appbrowser "getflash10.tcz" (i hope i got the name right, i'm using a different computer at the moment), but i am still unable to watch youtube videos.  apparently, i need more software.
i found three threads with info on the subject, but they were just not at the newbie level (lots of acronyms).
what else do i need?
thanks again.

Use the getFlash10 menu item, and it will download and package flash for you.

hi JasonW,

are you saying:
click appbrowser>connect>getflash10.tcz>install....?
this i've already done.  appbrowser successfully downloaded an array of software, then the dialog box turned yellow and said "ok"

"the getFlash10 menu item"
where do i find this?  is this found in the wbar?  control panel?  home folder?  is this the link at youtube that needs to be clicked on?

thanks for the quick reply.

right-click desktop>applications>getflash10
a terminal pops up and shows the installation taking place.

i'll be right-clicking the desktop more often.

the video works to completion, but there's no sound.
should i start a new thread?
thanks again.

Search forum for existing posts first?

And mentioning if OSS or alsa would help.
Try unmute and max everything in mixer as well.

i've never heard of them.  are these choices i get to make, or do i have to research which of these are required due to my hardware?

i've been at it for about an hour, since you posted.

tinypoodle,

that link is super!  with that i probably won't ever have another sound related question (that tutorial covers everything).
i have sound.

technosaurus,

i will keep your tip in mind.  your idea of using the older version is one that is practiced often.  i see alot of people using version 9 instead of 10.  9 works better for alot of folks.

things keep working with tinycore.
thanks for the replies.

to anyone interested in the setting up sound link

a wiki is user supplied info....so if there are any errors in wikis....feel free to edit ...add etc.

The sound wiki is not as super as I would like....there are some things deliberately not talked about such as Adobe flash setup or game sound or recording sound or using modified kernel to do some things (that I don't have any experience in) etc.

I was thinking of doing something on skype but not sure the best way of doing it.....a small hijack...it appears that as long as we don't say how to install direct...but use a fetch script....discussion seems to be tolerated?

I no longer need skype as I use VOIP hardware.

When I get a chance I will try to get pulseaudio added.

regards

aus9,

please post a link here if you would, and explain what it is that you're doing and why.  i've seen enough of what you can do, and i'll bet what you are providing will benefit someone.

thanks for the reply.
