Xorg video - the last straw.
« on: August 04, 2010, 11:54:21 PM »
< Too many problems in 3.0, down-graded back to TC 2.8. >

To cure the 1024x768x24x60hz problem, I installed the recommended Xorg and re-booted.  Just great  >:( another day wasted !

I get a boot prompt wanting a logon  ???
The Power-OFF button works very well.

Of the truly small distros,   I have found only one that will support above 800x600x24.  In fact, after testing six small distros, on five diff PCs, none have been user-acceptable.

Its really ironic that these machines were fully-functioning Windows 2000 Pro from a large corporate bankruptcy.

Is this a case of intel graphics? Then the extension graphics-2.6.33.3-tinycore is needed along with Xorg-7.5.

IBM NetVista "book-shelf" PC with on-board SIS 630 video.  Supports resolutions up to 1280x1024 up to 78hz.
Common LCD panel monitors are HP, MAG, Dell, etc all fixed @ 60hz for all res over 800x600.   I have $Sony & $$Planar which have variable scan rates at all supported rez.
All the major distros support the SIS630. Only one of the small-nix.

No big deal,,,  I'll be rid of them all soon.

Sis chipsets are really rather crappy, so even with perfect drivers they would be.. irritable. Add to that the driver maintainer quit doing that some years ago.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
