thunderbird: sound events not working?

Thunderbird allows for selection of .wav sounds to be played on events such as new mail. Enabling this function does not result in sounds. (playing sounds with eg aplay works fine.)

Which thunderbird version running on which TC version? If you do not provide details do not expect answer :(

tb3 on tc2.10. Same in tc2.11rc1.
