japanese language support in Tinycore
« on: April 16, 2010, 01:33:17 PM »
Hello!

I'm evaluating TinyCore for use internally at my company.  One of my requirements is JP/CN language support.

We have a pile of fonts that we usually ship around to various systems that need asian character support.  I've placed the fonts in /usr/share/fonts, as well as /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc.  After that, firefox renders Japanese websites very well.

However, when I use aterm to connect to an application server, which runs applications that require Japanese character support - the characters don't display problem.  I thought maybe it is just an aterm problem, but when I tried from tty1, I get the same problem.

Is there something special with tinycore/busybox that I need to do for the shell to correctly pickup my asian fonts?

Thanks!

Aterm doesn't support utf-8; try a terminal emulator such as LXTerminal or Xfce's Terminal.

Linux console would need a separate console font and translation table.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
