wavemon (0.6.7) dysfunctional.
« on: April 18, 2010, 01:41:36 PM »
wavemon (forum) is suffering from the following malady:

the first three function keys (F1,2,3) do not operate.  Keys F4-6 seem to "refresh" the view.  F7 is blank, until I hit escape, which is necessary after navigation keystrokes as well.  F8-10 seem to operate as expected.  The function keys are utilized to navigate the operations of the application.

Fortunately, the info context is the default startup view, so the application is usable to a degree.  Since the first three function keys do not operate, however, changing the view context renders the application useless --- except for those other functions (preferences, help, about, and quit) --- since they comprise the core features.

I thought I would rule out this being a Tinycorelinux issue before contacting the developer; has anyone else experienced this issue, and if so have you experienced it outside of TC?  I don't have another PC with a wireless card to test it on.

[Edit]
As a temporary workaround to access the other views, change the "Startup screen" in the preferences and restart wavemon.  Alternatively, the startup_screen field in .wavemonrc (created by saving the preferences after initial execution) can be altered as follows:
Code: [Select]
(ordered according to their function-key)
startup_screen = info
startup_screen = histogram
startup_screen = access points

Tested on TC 2.10 running on Acer Aspire 5720Z notebook. It works, see screen captures:

Do you have a working WLAN connection when trying?

Yes, of course.  The intention of: "Fortunately, the info context is the default startup view, so the application is usable to a degree", was to imply just that.  I must admit, I take a bit of offense to that question.

I'm running 2.10 as well, but on a whitebox (wikipedia).  Interestingly, when I start wavemon in histogram view, only the signal level (green) is displayed.

The card uses the rt61 chipset; lsmod output:
Code: [Select]
rt61pci                13632  0
rt2x00pci               3160  1 rt61pci
rt2x00lib              14536  2 rt61pci,rt2x00pci
rfkill                  4012  2 rt2x00lib
firmware_class          3188  1 rt2x00lib
mac80211               82100  2 rt2x00pci,rt2x00lib
cfg80211               21604  2 rt2x00lib,mac80211
eeprom_93cx6             688  1 rt61pci

My first impression is that this is either a keyboard or motherboard issue, if it works as expected for others on newer hardware.  Yet, the function keys all operate as expected elsewhere throughout TC.

Are your screenshots of the new version of wavemon?  I noticed your original reply stated you were going to test it.  I suspect you first attempted to duplicate the 'bug' before testing the new version.

Incidentally, what did you utilize to create those screen captuers?

There's a screenshot util in the menu.
