<solved> Still can't get flash to work on opera
« on: January 21, 2009, 09:31:35 PM »
Robert I know you explained this before but I still can't get flash to work on opera. Here's what I did:
1.) installed oss and turned sound on via menu.
2.) installed opera.tzc and ran it once
3.) installed flash.tce

4. ran opera and went to youtube.com

Still get "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player".

What am I doing wrong?

Do you have gtk2 loaded? Flash needs it to run

Good point. Since flash.tce is made dynamically there is no .dep file.

Still not able to get flash working in opera.
I assume you guys mean:
install gtl+-2.tczl before installing flash9.tce.

This did not fix the problem so I must still be doing something wrong.
-------------------------------
edit: I changed my installation procedure to let the boot process load flash out of the tce directory then manually did the optional install of OSS and opera. Flash now works. Maybe there is a sequence requirement. I'll investigate later.

If you do "ldd /path/to/flash.so", does it list anything as not found?

Ok now I'm getting somewhere. I noticed that I had loaded emelfm2 just before opera when flash started working. So I tried it without emelfm2 and indeed flash failed. So what does emelfm2 load that flash needs - it's something in this list besides OSS, gtk+-2 and opera.

edit: re dd command - searched for flash.so but could not find it.

Here's what I found it takes to get flash to work with opera

1.) installed flash.tce
2.) installed oss.tczm and turned sound on via menu.
3.) installed opera.tzc
4.) installed expat2.tczl
5.) installed fontconfig.tczl
6.) installed glib2tczl
7.)installed gtk+-2.tczl

run opera and flash should work

If you are using "z" type extensions then it is true that flash9.tce should be loaded first.

This occurs automatically when stored in your tce directory. So upon reboot the order is correct with flash9.tce loading first. All .tces load before any .tczs. The reason is that Opera ".tcz" would be read only for the plugins directory. By loading flash9.tce first, the plugins directory is created and .tcz does not overwrite existing directories.

The others can be loaded via appbrowser allowing for the automatic dep files to download and installed. oss.tczm and gtk+-2.tczl

Robert, thanks for that insight.  What you have pointed out is an important aspect of how to use tinycore "packages".  Regarding auto loading of all the other programs and libraries as a result of a ".dep" fille, my experience is that there is no ".dep" file associated with opera or flash, or even oss that completely loads all the support files. I had to install all the other support files one by one.

It's because OSS and Opera don't need those to run, only flash does, and not everyone wants flash..

I need to pack a flash9.tce.dep inside the getflash script.

I've never bothered with flash, but thought I'd try it after seeing this...

'Installs OK (after 130MB download, ho-hum), but slows my old desktop's 266MHz Pentium II to a standstill, so I guess I'll carry on not bothering with flash  :)
