hp omnibook 2100

(1/1)

steve51184:
hey all i have a very old hp omnibook 2100 and tiny core seems perfect for it but it doesn't have built in wifi so i'll need to get a usb/pcmcia card... are there any you can recommend that will work out of the box or am i going to need specific drivers for any card and again any you recommend?

alu:
pcmcia: i was using a standard netgear card; with this one, you need the firmware 2.13.12.0.arm from prism54.org; put the firmware into /lib/firmware/ and rename it isl3886pci; then load wireless extensions, and after that rmmod prism54 in order to remove the default prism driver;

usb: netgear w111 v2 works fine; you just have to modprobe rtl8187 in order for it to work;

usb: belkin wireless g adapter works fine too; you have to use the rt73.bin firmeware (similare procedure as above with  the prism firmware)

steve51184:
the netgear wg111 is about £15 GBP and the belkin wireless g adapter i can get for £5 GBP so this seems like the better option

so something like this will work?

also i'd much rather use a usb dongle or pcmcia if you have suggestions :)

curaga:
Double check if the laptop takes both 32-bit and 16-bit or only 16-bit pcmcia cards. There do exist 16-bit pcmcia wireless cards as well, but IIRC only at 11b speeds.
