Linksys USB54GCv3 chipset/driver?

I haven't been able to get wlan0 to show up trying various drivers, rt73...  Using lsmod, they are loaded, yet I never get a wlan0 adapter to show up.
I have v3 of the adapter, which I have seen posts about 1 and 4, but not 3.
lsusb shows:
1737:0077 Linksys

Anybody have success with this and know how to make this work?

I got more info using lsusb

Seems to imply RT73usb should work, any ideas?

did you try to bring the interface up with ifconfig wlan0 up?

you could try to load the strace extension additionally and

1. disable the module: rmmod rt73usb, rmmod rt2x00lib, rmmod rt2x00usb
2. do: sudo strace -e open modprobe rt73usb

it should reveal, whether it's opening the firmware at all...

I tried ifconfig wlan0 up and get:
ifconfig: SIOCGIFFLAGS: No such device

and strace command didn't work, do I have to install something to use that?

A review of the linksys adapter after google search says:

Also for linux the USB Vendor=1737 ProdID=0077, is first recognized by rt2800usb.c in kernel 2.6.31.

That would mean you'll have to wait for the next kernel or try the ralink sta driver :-/

So can I buy a different version somewhere or is there other usb adapters that have been verified to work?  I do need usb adapter to work, but don't care which type it is, just want something that has been verified and know where I could get it from.

well your choice wasn't that bad - I've got nearly the same chip, just on another usb key "Logilink USB Wlan 802.11bg". and it reports the ralink rt2500usb as vendor and model, works quite well and was a cheap buy at ebay too.

unfortunately I cannot advise you to buy a "special" perfect usb adapter just because there is none. you can be lucky with some old ralink, zydas or prism chipset, even newer ones from atheros (with ath9k) module might work. or just get a version prior to v3 of the linksys adapter which should work then.

I was hoping to find a local source as I am doing a development project with this, and will likely need about 20 of the same adapter once I get a solution working.

I will try to find something, trying the WUSB600N now, but not much luck.  Just had it on a keychain, so thought I would try it.

Found a supported Belkin adapter at best buy, works great with tshark and rt2500 driver, thanks for the help.
