Anyone else have trouble with Xfce4base.tcz?
« on: January 22, 2010, 03:44:49 AM »
Hello, I have been using TCL with Xfce4base for the last two months. Yesterday i remastered my TCL, rebooted to the new stick and tried to install Xfce4base, the result after a reboot was the regular TCL screen but instead of the mouse cursor a black cross. I then made a fresh TCL installation (no remaster) and tried again, same result. Same story on another computer. My old stick still runs Xfce just fine, but i cant get it to work on another one, my hardware is still the same as 2 months ago so no problem there. Is anyone else having the same problems? Or does the black cross sound familiar? Thanks.

I have an update by the way, if I copy all the files from /sda1/tce/ to the new stick (except for tinycore.gz, bzImage and mydata) then Xfce does work. This leads me to believe that something is going wrong during the installation.

Hi all:
I'm having problems with Xfcebase.tcz too!  Using a fresh install  version 2.8.1. on usb sdb1.  After re-boot get following errors while loading application extensions:

touch: /usr/local/tce.installed/shared-mime-info: Permission denied shared-mime-info
touch: /usr/local/tce.installed/gamin: Permission denied gamin
touch: /usr/local/tce.installed/libnotify: Permission denied libnotify
touch: /usr/local/tce.installed/hal: Permission denied hal
touch: /usr/local/tce.installed/libpci: Permission denied libpci
touch: /usr/local/tce.installed/libusb: Permission denied libusb

and then on the tcl srcreen the mouse shows up as a big black X.

What can be wrong?

It sound like copy-to-system mode is being used and there is an extension that has the wrong perms on the /usr/local/tce.installed directory.  I don't have time to try to find which one, but I bet it is one of the Xfcebase dependencies.

But the first case mentioned may be a result of being remastered, in that case there my be any number of thing that is the culprit.

Xfce4base depends on HAL which is a victim of the recent dbus change. I will fix it, please be patient a bit.

There were two issues with Xfce4base.tcz

1) HAL required an update due to recent DBUS changes. Pleaase update hal.tcz, corrected version is alerady in the repo

2) Xfce4base dependencies changed. Updated version is posted for submission, it will appear soon in the repo (1 item removed, 4 added, last line is libxcb-util.tcz)

With these changes Xfce4 runs fine again on 2.8.1

Now it works great!  ;D Thank's

One piece of advice: If one adds desktop=xfce to extlinux.conf, then the xfce desktop does not load(?).  Just add noicons.

The obvious question is how do I load "ondemand" a program?

Thanks for the feedback.

Will check desktop=xfce

You can use Appbrowser in Xfce4 also, it is on the desktop and in the menu. After using run tc2freedesktop.tcz this will create menu entries if the installed extension supports it.
