User mirroring of the repo.
curaga:
The scripts might not run, as there's been changes over the years in info format, etc. However, there's been no changes to 2.x since 2012, and we don't take any for that old versions - please consider them as historical archives.
CentralWare:
@curaga: okay, 2.x flagged as unsupported. Thanks!
CentralWare:
@Jason / roberts / curaga / etc.
Here's a potential fix for bandwidth (TCL, Ibiblio and others) where people would not "need" a full mirror assuming there's an internet connection.
Caching Server Scenario:
Assume busybox-httpd or similar (small) web server
Add a custom CGI which catches 404's, puts the caller "on hold", fetches the requested file from a mirror, updates the local repo, then sends the file through to the caller.
This way, people can run a local repo on an as-needed basis. Figuring out which files/dependencies/etc. someone's going to need is a chore when you're building/rebuilding/testing/repeating.
Client machine:
/opt/tcemirror contains
--- Code: ---http://192.168.111.222/tinycorelinux/
--- End code ---
Repo Server:
/usr/local/bin/busybox-httpd runs our show
/usr/local/repowww/cgi-bin/index.cgi contains 404 downloader content
/usr/local/repowww/tinycorelinux is a soft-link to where ever the TCL repo is located

another rabbithole that started innocently enough...sigh.
re: https://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,27321.0.html
(the notice that tcl 4.x will be removed at the 2024/2025 new year)
checked: http://tinycorelinux.net/4.x/
(still there as of post time)
wondered how one would go about following "If you need these, please download your copies by the year's end."(from above forum post) with respect to downloading all the extensions so they would continue to be available to these users.
let the hole begin:
https://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/board,14.0.html
https://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,4677.0.html
https://forum.tinycorelinux.net/index.php/topic,7929.0.html
fails, but noted to give the whole hole(https://wiki.tinycorelinux.net/Local_appbrowser_server)
https://wiki.tinycorelinux.net/doku.php?do=search&id=app_browser&sf=1&q=app+browser+server
https://wiki.tinycorelinux.net/doku.php?id=wiki:start&s[]=app&s[]=browser&s[]=server]
(is there a way to make the above link work correctly on this forum?)
https://wiki.tinycorelinux.net/doku.php?id=wiki:local_appbrowser_server
the webpage above(...local_appbrowser_server) shows:
wiki/local_appbrowser_server.txt ยท Last modified: 2011/10/08 22:36 by littlebat
so my simple question is...finally...sigh...is the above webpage still accurate/current?(13yr-old!)
and since this thread OP was january 17th, 2010(@Jason W)...but has been revisited several times over the years, with the most recent being august 16th, 2018(@CentralWare)...i didn't see a reason not to post here.
i guess another question that needs answered is if...as these versions are removed...they _are_ and/or _can_be_ tarballed so if said user just wanted the whole "tcl 4.x x86 & x86_64 _full_monty_" as one tarball...then that would be available?
(and i recognize that there might be some charge/fee/remuneration/etc for said same)
also for the convenience and reference of future forum/post/thread visitors:
https://www.wordhippo.com/what-is/another-word-for/full_monty.html
whew...
oh damn, forgot to note that, as of this post, this thread has been viewed 123179 times!
(then i began wondering about "forum statistics" and how one would discover the _most_viewed_thread?)
20250103-0236am-cst-usa-modified: added another question...sigh
