chromium-browser
« on: December 28, 2009, 12:58:00 PM »
I have installed the chromium-browser, but it does not run from the icon, the menu, or the command line.  From the command line the error message is "illegal instruction".  Any help or comment is appreciated.

A pentium 4 seems required as my P3 800mhz gives the same error, but my p4 runs it fine.

I have so far run tinycore linux only on a pentium ii 233 mhz processor.  I will try it on a pentium iv.  I have successfully run the chrome browser under slitaz linux on a pentium iii 600 mhz.  Where is the special build of the chromium-browser with sse and sse2 disabled for tinycore linux?  I would like to try it on the pentium ii 233 mhz processor.

The chromium-browser works on the machine with the pentium iv 1500 mhz and 256 mb.  I will try to test it on the pentium iii 600 mhz and 512 mb machine soon.  I will send an email message to get the altered version of the browser to try with the pentium ii 233 mhz and 288 mb machine.  Thanks.

I've been using chromium on tinycore with 512MB ram 900Mhz (intel Celeron M).

Browser starts up almost instantly. Complex html/javascript pages load almost instantly.

Not only that, but with those specs the Runescape game works fairly well, and it requires substantially more RAM+processor than (for example) watching YouTube.

(it is a Java game that does client-side 3D graphics processing)

The altered chromium-browser with sse and sse2 disabled runs fine on my pentium ii 233 mhz and 288 mb machine.  On the pentium iii 600 mhz and 512 mb machine the browser labeled chromium-browser does not seem to run and results in the illegal instruction error, but the newly available browser labeled chromium-browser-i686 does run well without apparent errors on the pentium iii 600 mhz and 512 mb machine.

P3 did not have SSE2 instructions, so that was to be expected.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
