Some questions
« on: November 27, 2009, 05:56:23 AM »
Hello, people, I'm Dima. I'm currently working on my very own Linux distro, something very similar to Tiny Core.

  • I want to use an edited version of TC's /init in my distro. Is it legal?
  • I want to credit the Tiny Core team, even if I'm not allowed to use anything from it in my distro, because TC is a big inspiration for me. What should I do - add a link, put it in the motd/issue ... ?
  • I want to thank the TC developers ... Tiny Core is absolutely awesome. Frankly, I think you're doing a great job with every new release of TC.
  • I want to contribute to TC, I can share some of my knowledge ... is it possible?

If you wonder what my distro is all about, it's very similar to TC, as I said. It's built around kernel 2.6.31.6, GCC 4.3.4, glibc 2.9 and BusyBox 1.15.2. It's extremely minimal, it lacks even udev, util-linux-ng and e2fsprogs (at least for now). Currently, it's for x86_64, but I'm "porting" it to i486 with i686 optimizations, like TC.

Thank you.

- unless otherwise specified, all code is under gpl (v2, iirc)
- a link is fine, but that's really up to you
- contributing is part of the spirit :)

And welcome to the forums.

Thank you :)

So ... how can I contribute? So far, what I see is extensions and RC-testing.

You can also help with documentation, spread the word, create a Youtube video. And if you see anything in the base or extensions that could be improved, feel free to say it.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
