Tightvnc posted. Only had to load old-X-dev.tce, because it uses the old X Imake system to build. I only tested via localhost though, but it should work fine over network.

Thank you very much... I'll test it out tomorrow.

I didn't notice this extension before...thank you for pointing it out, that will make building some drivers that I need to try (to get HDMI support in Xorg) a lot easier.

My requests:
Any AIM chat client (Pidgin, aytmm, etc.)
GnuCash
Some sort of small calender program that I can keep notes/dates on, something similar to http://kontact.kde.org/
Any lightweight text editor - preferably AbiWord
Last, but not least - Some sort of wireless management GUI, wlassistant, anything like that
I plan to add some bioinformatics related modules later this semester or over the summer so that TCL can be my OS of choice during grad school.

it would be great to use a friendly gui zip/unzip (just tar.gz is fine, gz plus bz even better, and if it actually includes zip, that's great) program like file-roller. obviously file-roller itself is a bit much (gnome? xfce?) and emelfm is no good because i want to use it to remove individual files (edit tar.gz files...) and emelfm only ungzips them.
but i don't need a .tce (i wouldn't mind.) as usual i'd love to know something along the lines of what i'm mentioning that "just compiles" without crazy hacks. svensko just compiled mad-wifi and using the linux headers, and from the looks of his post it just took make, sudo make install. i wish there were more projects like that. probably because it's not a gui, or using ncurses, eh? so much fuss just for good old ansi escape routines. i'll keep looking, maybe i'll try to compile the gnu tar util.

Did you have a look at peazip - http://peazip.sourceforge.net/ ?
I believe version 1.9.x can be compiled with/without gtk2
