netrik and two versions of links. the newer version of links (of the two) is graphical and uses the mouse.

I'll have a go at nmap - give me a couple of days to play around with it.

Looks like Key beat me to it  :)

at juanito and tobiaus: thanks, I didn't see the links web browser in the repository, my own mistake. and thanks a lot for nmap, it works very good and it is a very useful app.

at juanito: let's then forget openoffice 3.x. What about a cli email client? as i believe, alpine has a lot of dependencies, but it is very easy to use and very flexible. what do you think about it?

I don't use e-mail in linux - just keeping up with work e-mail in windows is already a big enough task - so I wouldn't be able to test anything I compiled. Maybe somebody else in the forum could pick this one up...

... as you have probably already corrected: VPN not vnp and VPNC, not vnpc

aterm if it's not going to be in the base, most likely the same fast, small version that was in tc up until version 1.3.

Xampp works fine and provides a nice complete package of apache, php, mysql and proftp.
 - Need to install bash shell extension
 - Need to install firewall extension ( has in it ipv6 support) - to avoid the ip version 6 errors

download xampp to home/tc
unpack xampp with tar per xampp instructions - Note tar command requires -f option last.
tar creates lampp dir in /opt - lampp can be moved to a usb stick (ext2) with use of symbolic link in /opt
symbolic link can be created with a command in bootlocal at boot time to maintain persistance
/opt/lampp/lampp start - to start all the services

Works great!

tried that

doesn't work  :'(

I extract the files into opt directory

but when I try to execute /opt/lampp/lampp start

shell tells me it's not found

------------

my guess is that : my usb stick is fat16, so links are not created right

You need to install the bash shell. All the xampp scripts were written assuming you are running bash shell. You must be  root user as well.
-------
edit:
Sorry I missed the significance of your comment. The usb stick partition where the opt directory resides needs to be ext2.

ogg theora codecs? using mplayer nodeps, it can play the audio of http://s.ma.tt/dropbox/2008/09/gnu/Stephen_Fry-Happy_Birthday_GNU-lq_300px_190kbit.ogv but not the video.

there are ogg-vorbis (audio) codecs (not needed for mplayer to play ogg audio) but appbrowser doesn't note any support of theora. (it's not commonly used, but it's a pity to not have it supported one way or another.)
