I have updated Xorg-7.4.tczl to work as a tcz and confless. Tested with Tiny Core v2.4

Comments:       Starting TC 2.3, you don't need to do anything beyond
restarting X after loading the extension, to run
confless. If you need to configure something, such as
keymap, or have hardware trouble with autodetection,
create a xorg.conf:

If you are only looking to get software 3D
and no accel, instead of creating a config file
suitable for your hardware like below, you can rename
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.vesa to xorg.conf.

To get Xorg with accel, drop to text mode,
get a root console (sudo su), and then
Xorg -configure
.
Edit the newly created config file as needed,
when it's ready copy it to /etc/X11 named xorg.conf
Remember to add this file to your backup (/opt/.filetool.lst)
or save it some other way.

This extension depends on graphics-2.6.29.1.tczm for
any kind of 3D or video accel.

Please note, for AGP or integrated AGP cards such as Intel
chips you will always need graphics-2.6.29.1.tczm.

Only scalable fonts included, bitmap fonts in the base
are quite enough. Tips on 3D and X keymaps can be found
in /etc/X11/README.xorg.conf.

If you don't use a persistent local or TCZ, be wary
unless you have atleast 256mb ram!

Edit .xsession by replacing the X line with
/usr/local/bin/Xorg -nolisten tcp &

I have tried installing Xorg several times but every time X won't start. Generates all sorts of errors. (Since I am a n00b this means I have to start from scratch because I haven't yet found out how to revert.)

Is there anything you need, log files etc, to track this down? Please be very specific.

I want to install Xorg because that's the only way I can get my external 1600x900 monitor to display the correct resolution on other linux distros, eg puppylinux. I have not been successful with Xvesa.

If your system fails to start confless, you should reboot with the text boot option and then follow the instructions in the .info file, e.g.

To get Xorg with accel, drop to text mode, get a root console (sudo su), and then Xorg -configure ...

Another option is to copy over an existing and known working Xorg configuration file and ...

opy it to /etc/X11 named xorg.conf Remember to add this file to your backup (/opt/.filetool.lst) or save it some other way.

Either way when ready, exit from rootshell,  type startx

Is there anything you need, log files etc, to track this down? Please be very specific.

I don't use Xorg any more, but I recall the log file is something like /var/log/Xorg.0.log or similar

I got Xorg going to my satisfaction after reading lots more all over the forums...

One thing that eludes me is a working PPI with Xorg. I don't see Xorg indicated as PPI compatible, right? What should I backup to achieve this? (I already have a xorg.conf in backup.)

If you're using Xorg-7.4tczl, you can look in /tmp/tcloop/Xorg-7.4 to see what files are not under /usr/local.

A starting point could be to backup all of the files outside /usr/local?
