i tried compiling it, but i've never managed to compile anything before. only tc is both close enough to my needs and created with the kind of care that makes me want to bother, but i've found that it doesn't always have the things you need to compile something.

what to do about that is beyond me technically but other people seem to understand. if i'm ever able to compile things, i'll try again, but it may need things that are taken for granted one place and not worth adding for one little downloader. i hope someone is able to help you with it. i had fun trying.

I'll try to have a look at this in the next couple of days

Edit: From wikipedia:
Quote
Downloader For X (or simply D4X) is a download manager/accelerator for Unix-like systems. It is open source software released under the Artistic licence. It can pause and restart downloads at any time, and utilises both the HTTP and FTP protocols. It can limit download speeds to free bandwidth for other uses.

The project seems to be dead. Since it uses the obsolete Artistic License 1.0, which FSF doesn't consider to be free, it could be removed from Linux distributions with strong license policies (such as Fedora, see Artistic 1.0 Removal for details).

So, in short, it can limit download speed compared to Opera's builtin downloader ;)

well yeah, but some people don't want to use opera unless they go open. we're just odd that way. i've used it many times before, it's the nicest proprietary webbrowser i've ever seen.

I'm the type who won't understand using a graphical app for downloading. Especially gtk2. If you're not afraid of the console, aria2 is open source, and available as a tce.

The boost libs are actually 95% headers ;)

They have several functions made just using #defines for lazy c++ programmers. The whole thing only takes space, and is usually only needed compile-time.
