Toshiba Magnia SG20 with Microcore 2.2
(1/1)
Lee:
I managed to get Microcore 2.2 installed (and accessible) on my Toshiba Magnia SG-20. It wasn't at all hard to do, though I contrived to make it hard by the strategic use of typos, bad assumptions and just plain dumb mistakes.
The system is an Intranet-in-a-box appliance with a Celeron @ 533MHz (I think), 128 MB of RAM and a pair pf 40 GB PATA drives. No video not keyboard at all but it has an 8-port switch (hub?), another separate ethernet port ("wan side"), a modem, a parallel port and a pcmcia port (currently with an Orinoco wireless card in it).
I haven't tried out the wireless bit yet - though that's the whole point of this exercise. I don't suppose I ever will use the modem (phone jack) or parallel ports for anything.
I'm envisioning a router/firewall/wap sort of thing.
Does anyone out there have a similar system in use? Ideas? Suggestions?

I anticipate that no video not keyboard at all but it has an 8-port about-face (hub?), addition abstracted ethernet anchorage ("wan side"), a modem, a alongside anchorage and a pcmcia anchorage (currently with an Orinoco wireless agenda in it).

Lee:
It communicates with the switch as eth0, the "wan" port as eth1 and the orinico card as eth2, though I haven't successfully connected to anything via the the wireless.
I haven't done anything at all with the modem.
I decided to put apache and an ftp server on it, as a learning experience, and it seems to be running those very nicely.
