Sound
« on: February 20, 2026, 09:50:46 AM »
Hello forum,

there is the standard "Tinycore 64 bit" here on pen drive. it Boots.

i just wondered which extension will give SOUND to the machine on their own....?

i presumed the following below.............
-------------------------------------------------------

1) Loading ALSA should give sound

2) is SDL another extension you can load to get SOUND? (alone).....?
3) is "Pulseaudio" another extension you can load (alone) to get SOUND.....?
4) Has "OSS sound"  long since disappeared.....?

are there any others like specific "HDMI sound extensions" for getting the sound part of HDMI?

thanks
C

On my laptop I need Xorg-7.7-3d and graphics-KERNEL installed for sound to work with alsa and hdmi - even then hdmi sound usually doesn’t come up as the default device.

On my HP laptop (which I'm using as a desktop, with an external HDMI monitor) it, by default, seems to want to send sound to the HDMI monitor which, alas, has no speakers.  To get sound to come out via the headphone jack (and hence to an external speaker) I had to
blacklist snd_hda_intel
then, in onboot.lst load alsa-config.tcz and alsa.tcz (in that order) and then, in bootsync.sh, run
modprobe snd_hda_intel options index=1

I don't know if, in my case, it's dependent upon Xorg-7.7 and graphics-KERNEL because I pretty much always have those loaded anyway.

I also load apulse.tcz and use apulse to run firefox.  Otherwise, no sound in firefox.
Of course, your hardware configuration is likely much different than mine.  And if you use that USB stick in multiple machines, it may also vary from one usage to the next.

Juanto

i did mess with ALSA and that graphics KERNEL the sound started working.....BUT.......at exactly the same time tinycore shut down it's Graphics FEED out of VGA port to my external plugged in VGA monitor and instead, the Laptops broken screen faintly lit up....

so i assume it switched into HDMI since this laptop does support........ HDMI but i don't own any external screens  with HDMI connections

Thx
C

ps....this is the same Laptop that  6 months back would not RUN tinycore from CD disc...........it would boot and seem fine then just give ZIG ZAG lines on the screen..........i tried a whole afternoon of fixes and resolutions and driver blacklists and nothing worked

so i left TCL alone for 6 months

This same laptop now boots fine with TCL from a pen drive.....
It's a machine that contains TWO gpu's ...........INTEL and NVIDIA

hmmm

My laptop has a function key that switches between internal display, external hdmi or both - does your machine have something similar?

You probably have a bios setting that will force intel or nvidia graphics, I would suggest troubleshooting using intel graphics.
