gnome-session removed
« on: March 31, 2026, 06:11:00 AM »
A while ago, gnome-session was built on tinycore x86_64 to see if a desktop designed for systemd could be made to work on a non-systemd distro.

After some hacking, the gnome desktop was made to work.

At some point with tc-16.x, the gnome desktop stopped working (most likely due to an update of glib2) and after several weeks trying unsuccessfully to get it working, I have decided to abandon it.

The following extensions have been removed from the tc-17 x86_64 repo

gdm
gnome-session
gnome-power-manager
gnome-shell
gnome-shell-extension-emoji-selector
gnome-shell-extensions
gnome-shell-extension-weather
gnome-tweaks
mutter
polari

It is possible that a couple more gnome-* extensions will only work with gnome-session, I will check for this and, if so, remove them.

If I have accidentally broken other extensions by the above removal, please report it so things can be fixed.

Edit: polari also seems to have been broken by a glib2 update, removed
