Make everything bigger for poor eyesight--Xft.dpi: 130
« on: November 17, 2024, 06:51:04 AM »
Hi

On Linux, I use "Xft.dpi: 130" in .Xresources.  It makes everything bigger by 130%.

But this does nothing on TC Pure64.  I am running Xfbdev.  What is the way to make everything bigger by 130%?

Thanks!

IMHO, "bigger by 130%" means the final is 230%(=100%+130%). Xfbdev is NOT as Xorg-server, Xfbdev is a simplified version of a X server, so no fancy keboard/mouse/fonts etc dependencies...
Also, the "native" apps of TC are using FLTK as a GUI toolkit, so Xft.* will work just for few apps, but will not make "everything" bigger.

Plus is a long evolution about how font are scalable TTF (not bitmapped) and the implication of pango/cairo libs in font rendering.
Did you SAVE your new settings AND restart the TC (X server + user login)?

But, as long as you use gtk2 appls, fonts become scalabled, because new wonderful of GTK dependencies (and bloat/fat).

I am just using Firefox now.  Firefox allow me to the zoom.  I set the zoom to 133%, and it is usable (no more eyestrain)  but the font look low-resolution.  And besides, the menus fonts are still very small font size.
