basic install instructions step 6 problem
« on: August 15, 2009, 04:53:45 PM »
got to step 6 and tried the instructions for GRUB:
cp -p /usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/* /mnt/hda1/boot/grub/

get response --> cp: cannot stat '/usr/lib/grub/i386-pc/*': no such file or directory

installed MC and searched the directories and no such files or directories. all previous steps completed with no errors. hda1 is mounted -- all of step 5 completed and checked that files and directories are there as stated in directions.
What obvious step have I missed?

Perhaps, in Step 1 at the very bottom, it says...

Now repeat this process, by selecting and installing grub-0.97-splash.tce.

oh that was too easy! i "know" i read over that and entered that and missed that after all.
i now have the "grub > _ " thingy after a reboot. KOOL.
starting to get those senior moments, makes life interesting for us old farts.
now i have to learn what is next, that is why i am trying this. one needs to stir up the brain now and then with something new.

thanks so much for the prompt response.

It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one stirring up my brain here.
