recent adventure with ubuntu
« on: August 15, 2023, 11:42:26 AM »
recently read this commentary:
https://linux.slashdot.org/story/23/08/12/1835204/should-there-be-an-official-version-of-linux
and more at:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/why-dont-more-people-use-desktop-linux-i-have-a-theory-you-might-not-like/

and was then curious enough to download, checksum, and write ubuntu-22.04.3-desktop-LTS to a thumbdrive(usb2.0) just for kicks

have 2 laptops circa 2012 vintage, one with UEFI and one without, and both of them exhibited the same failure to fully boot with the thumbdrive inserted into the USB3 ports...
but they both booted fine with the thumbdrive inserted into the USB2 ports...

(for further information on the failure search the www for "casper-md5check verify live iso checksums" to see various discussions)

just an fyi, sharing is caring
