streaming and playing *.avi files

what is the most economic way to stream and play *.avi files? i am using mc with the xvesa native server.

mplayer-nodeps to play, using "sudo mplayer -vo xvidix myfile.avi".

Stream, what do you mean?

stream: i meant to read a remote *.avi file typically from the internet; i tried to read this file within opera, but i have got a message that the avi plugin was missing, that's why i tried with mplayer-nodeps without success since i didn't know which was the right option to type; i'll try soon with your solution
