tinycore persistance of APPS etc
« on: November 04, 2022, 08:15:04 AM »
Hello Forum,

If a user has TCL on a pen drive from where they boot it.

then

for getting proper persistence of...... "/home" , "/opt" ,  and "/tce"

should he or she also have a spare Linux partition on that pen drive?
(in addition to the OS partition?)

Thx
C

For a bios boot, you can use one linux partition.

For a uefi boot, you need a fat boot partition and a separate linux partition.

OK Juanto,

Could you just clarify with me  the following.....is true?

1) Say a person boots TCL from pen drive.  (bios or Ueif)
2) The person also uses another spare Linux formatted pen drive where
he or she has "SET" the location of TCE to be.
3) The person always remembers to boot using "waitusb=5"
4) The person always remember to shut down using BACKUP
and pointing to the spare pen drive for that BACKUP

5) Therefor due to points 1 to 4 above, a person can expect the following:
a) installed APPS of their machine are saved (through all new boots)
b) His or her "Generated Docs" and "Files" and "settings" are
permanently saved over all new boot ups.....?

correct?

thx

You would need to identify the usb sticks using uuid or a label since it’s not certain they would be recognised in the same order each boot.
