Request for new TCE file: casper-rw
« on: August 29, 2022, 03:22:06 PM »
Hello, I want to suggest you a new .tcz extension.  The software requested is running into Debian and Ubuntu Linux releases, and I know it as casper-rw.  This software can store filesystem files into a big file to run the Linux system with a few amount of RAM memory.  I think this could be nice for TC.

Thank you.  :-)

This sounds like TC now. How is this different?

TC loads all .tcz modules into RAM.  casper-rw filesystem do same, with some extra advantages, and few used RAM.

Hi AlejandroPadrino
TC only loads modprobed modules into RAM. Modules, like all  .tczs  reside on your permanent
storage and are only linked into the file system by tce-load.

I know it, Rich, but into RAM when loaded .tcz files.

Casper looks to be a series of scripts specific to debian/ubuntu?

I don't know files used by casper-rw.  :-(

Hello Gadget42,

your link shows a feature of casper-rw, there are some more features.  But I'm talking about the casper-rw filesystem stored in DVD as main filesystem to load .tcz modules.  At this moment I'm not sure if this could run for TC.

Thank you.  :-)

Still thinking this new .tcz extension is needed.  Building custom TC kernels over 680MB causes a kernel panic.  :-(
