hello to start things off...
my computer is:
SPECS:
Processor=Pentium 3
Memory=64MB (very old PC100 cant find anymore parts)
Others= the regular type of things LAN,cdrom, etc.
(no internet access)
About the user: not much off a hardware guy, but willing to
tinker around
BACKGROUND:
Been using windows since windows95,98B,2000SP4(my fave)
had a taste of XP but never did like it because of my
memory(used to have 128).. always had the blue screen
that is why i sticked to 2000SP4..
but now my one off my 64MB died on me, now my 2000 is so slow
especially when i load a firefox very iritating..
thats when i had it!!!!!
until now..
PAST FEW MONTHS:
since i heard about the word STABLE in linux, been dying
to try it.. and it didnt failed my expectation
first off i researched to find the linux suitable for me
(with all the linux dist. out there) and a bit curious about debian.
but through my reading its for advanced linux users.. and needed the internet
to install desktop and a bit out
of my league..needed to know more about linux, so baby-steps
next to Corel Linux, hehehe just a bit old and curious about it..
next to slackware, downloaded it but cant install because i got
the DVD.iso, wanted the CD.iso but too many hehehe (so slackware is out)
NOTE: but still very interested, just need to get a new comp. with DVD
next to Vectorlinux, to cut things short LOVED it!!!
but its too slow for my memory (i guess, maybe its my settings)
NOW:
and now heard about the LIVE CD, and im beginning to be addicted by it.
so i researched again..
NOTE: what im looking for is an alternative from windows
winamp, microsoft word, microsoft excel, movie player, and a wallpaper(just to spice things up hehehe)
[FAST TRACKING]
SLAX=slow loading for my computer (but looks promising).
Damn Small Linux= good, just cant understand though why i can mount, only
my sda1 can something about fs.
Deli Linux=very fast but only for word documents no multimedia or anything for my music or movies.
slitaz=downloaded it, but never have the chance to use it.. while loading it hangs
luit linux= haha almost what im looking for word, xmms but no mplayer
then comes you..
PRESENT:
may i just say Tiny Core is so PERFECT!!!! (im calling out to all 64RAMS this is the one,its so perfect!!!!)
xmms player=Perfect, and dont get me started with mplayer-nodep its fu***ng unbelievable(unlike in windows i
had to download some codecs, i know i still need it but damn just installing mplayer-nodeps just made my day)
NOW:
i guess this is the part what you are waiting for, just a stupid little problem that i cant seem to understand(without even the basic knowledge of coding)
i install all the programs and extension in the appbrowser in a local install.
because i dont have intenet access, so i go to a local internet cafe and i download programs in a FTP site.
already try installing xmms,mplayer-nodeps,beaver,emelfm,having trouble with gnumeric and open office(thats not my concern)
now, i know when i restart TC it will all be gone
then i read that i can edit the /opt/.filetool.lst and also in the tools theres a button to do it automatically..
ive already done it with my background image by panel>tools>add to filetool (now i have wallpaper so thats 1/5 of what im looking for)
PROBLEMS:
NOTE: keep in mind i didnt install it on hdd im still running in LIVE CD, and just backing it up with USB
1.now my problem is how to save my extensions, like glib1, gtk1, pixman, etc... i cant understand the saving issues neither the coding..
tried google but it has a limited answer
here is my code:
opt/bootlocal.sh
opt/.tcrc
opt/.backgrounds/
opt/.filetool.lst
opt/.xfiletool.lst
opt/.backgrounds/simpsons421024x768.jpg
home/tc
home/tc/.beaver/AccelRC ->this is what i added, just to show how lame i am
home/tc/.beaver/General ->this is what i added, just to show how lame i am
home/tc/.beaver/wordfile.txt ->this is what i added, just to show how lame i am
at this time i was experimenting if i could save the program, file but cant
hope, you have a super newbie.pdf on how to save in .filetool.lst
2.what is the difference between TCE and TCZ i also cant understand which is much better (just so you know i always download TCZ,
because ive read that its ideal for low RAM users)
well thats all for now....
hope some one could help me... all of my friends are window users so i have no one to ask these things
please bear in mind this is my very first linux forum....
and
i just started with Tiny Core last 24days and still counting..
sorry for the very long story just wanted someone to know what ive been through.....
thanks and more power!!!!!!!
