Backup: directory permissions

So I don't want to backup the whole home directory, just separate files. The problem is those files sit in subdirectories and when I reboot all those subdirs are recreated but owned by root. File permissions get restored properly, directories don't

By design, that's how tar operates. IIRC there's previous topics about this.
