firefox download issue
(1/1)
ulfr:
hi jason w and everyone
i have a problem with dcore-stretch
downloading and loading firefox
it will seem to download and build ok
it will seem to load the sce ok
but it will not make a link in the menu
and will say not found if you try to run firefox from the aterm
when i look in tcloop/firefox
it does not contain a firefox start script or a firefox symlink in usr
as firefox-esr does
firefox-esr works fine
any thoughts as to why this is happening
thanks
ulfr
Jason W:
Hi ulfr. The package name 'firefox' is listed in the additional dependencies file on the server, because in the early days there were dependencies needed that were not brought in by sce-import. But in more current Debian releases, firefox is actually firefox-esr and there is no firefox package. Therefore a firefox.sce is able to be imported that has no firefox nor firefox-esr in it. I can remove firefox from the additional dependencies file now, which I will do.

thanks jason for your reply
and for making dcore
to get an updated firefox in dcore-stretch
i managed to get fredx portable firefox (from the puppy linux forum)
to run in dcore-stretch (with sound)
i first load firefox-esr which provides the necessary dependencies
and then run fredx portable firefox
adding alsa and pulseaudio
if you have the time and inclination
i would like your thoughts on this
also do you have another way to get an up to date firefox in dcore-stretch
thanks again
ulfr
Jason W:
Hi ulrf. To easily install the latest Firefox in dCore, install and use the package dCore-firefox-installer. You first need a browser like firefox-esr installed as the installer uses the web browser page to download the latest firefox. After you have created a firefox-latest package using dCore-firefox-installer, you no longer need to have another browser installed. To update firefox-latest, just run dCore-firefox-installer with firefox-latest extension loaded. dCore-firefox-installer includes all the dependencies needed by firefox-latest and gets loaded when firefox-latest is loaded. But pulseaudo is needed to be installed and running seperately of course.
