text browser for tty

i am looking for a text browser which i can surf with without xserver on; i thought that links would do the trick, but i tried it without an xserver and it does not seem to work; any idea?

What doesn't work?  There's also elinks and netrik (and perhaps others) in the repository (don't forget you can search the repos!)
