How many hours did you "invested" to "master" your linux?

Yeah, sorry about that.  Most essays are caffeine-fueled.

On a related note, when I bang out a 5 or 6 line configuration file, I don't use an editor, but just simple cat redirection into a file, and ctrl-d to actually write it.  I don't even invoke ed!

I got that habit from my early MWC Coherent install, prior to Xenix and Slackware.  Coherent had some great docs, and although mentioned in another forum, a bit moldy, some of the material is still valid 26 years later.  Docs in pdf or ps here:

Especially if you really want to get into ed, bc, dc, and other stuff - just be aware that some of it is stale.   Then again, 20 years before THAT, most of this stuff still worked when first implemented at ATT.  I get a kick out of good design, even through all the changes.

I guess Tinycore/piCore/dCore and some other distros give me that great feeling of a direct connect back to those early unix wizards - many of whom are still with us.
