Picore newbee looking for an application to read pdf files
« on: June 18, 2014, 04:31:39 AM »
I got picore 5.3.1 running on raspberry version 2. I'm looking for an application able to read pdf files. Is there something already available or planned ?
Thanks in advance for your kind reply.

I have the same problem: there is no application to read PDF files on picore.
Are there any plans to port a PDF applicaition?

Although this is a very old topic, I still think it is a relevant question.
Indeed a pdf reader for piCore would be very welcome as this allows one to read some documentation whilst working on something else for instance.

The only 'workaround' that I found so far is using ghostscript which allows you to walk through a document in one direction.

I looked into many 'small' PDF readers but none of these are easy to pull in on piCore due to missing dependencies (most notably Qt framework). Ghostview (GV) would be the most obvious choice.

Any help is still very much appriciated.

Kind regards,
Pengo

You don't say which version of piCore you're using, but there is a qpdf extension in the piCore-9.x repo.

I thought qpdf is for checking / manipulating pdf files, not for showing and/or reading them.

It was just a suggestion (I never tried) - you could look at compiling flaxpdf

http://tinycorelinux.net/6.x/x86_64/tcz/src/flaxpdf/ (substituting piCore flags)
