Saving personal settings ?

The documentation writes:--

Instead of tryintg to instruct how to edit a file, it should state the
*SYNTAX* of files: .filetool.lst .xfiletool.lst;
which are seen to be:
# ls -l /opt/.xfiletool.lst =145 =
.cache
XUL.mfasl
XPC.mfasl
mnt
.adobe/Flash_Player/AssetCache
.macromedia/Flash_Player
.opera/opcache
.opera/cache4
.Xauthority
.wmx

This does not help me to save my *ESSENTIAL* settings for mc:
 for root & non-root users.
Please advise.

You could read the mc man pages to find out where it stores its settings.

The settings for  mc  are saved in the  /home  directory for regular users. For the  root  user they are saved in  /root.
