reinstall failed

learning through failing i am running again, but had to clean off partitions on hard drive to get the auto install app to get past "failedinwaitforX", then default to terminal. There seems to be a connection to having a previous install on the disk and not being able to reinstall over it till you clean it off. The laptop is a Celeron 2gig ram, 200gig hard drive, old toshiba 32bit. Running straight auto install with default desktop selected. Just curious of any comment on the mechanics of this happening. Thanks to the TinyCore team for this very educating flavor of linux for older machines.

Maybe a few details about your new installation? For example, your "onboot.lst".
So you made the same install, and it don't start X? Previous install was TC too? Have you experimented with different X servers?

There has been several updates since the release of the ISOs.
The auto install script may have copied the incompatible ones.
Try updating all your packages and fetching all missing dependencies.

A TC CD will try to load extensions and backup from any found drives. This lets you do things like carry one cd but have different data on a few computers.

Yes, this does mean that if you have an older TC install on the hard drive, booting CorePlus from CD will try to load things from the disk installation, which may prevent it from booting. IIRC you can add the "base norestore" bootcodes so it will only load things from the CD, letting you overwrite an older hd install.
