messed video with nvidia configuring of xorg
« on: January 24, 2019, 07:25:08 AM »
now everytime i start it tries and fails to load xorg but it defaults to vesa eventually, after making me wait around one full minute. i tried deleting the xorg.conf generated, unloaded all modules related to video from onboot (except video drivers). how do i get back to pre generation of xorg.conf condition? I dont know what i did wrong really.
Thank you for your help!

After that, did you run a backup? If not, the next time you boot  xorg.conf  will be restored.

If that doesn't help, it may be a recently installed extension.

To find which extensions you installed most recently:
Code: [Select]
ls -ltr --full-time /etc/sysconfig/tcedir/optional/*.tczThe most recent extensions will be at the bottom of the list.

interestingly - i deleted mydata.tgz in an effort to wipe any settings i might have left behind and rebooted core9 but the same problem still persists, long wait when X is supposed to start.

Hi h2sammo
Add the boot code  syslog.  Then reboot and have a look at the timing information in  /var/log/messages  to see if it provides
any clue for the delay.

You might want to post a copy of that message.

i have attached the syslog generated messages. i split it in two because of 128kb size limitation

the udev message dissapeared but the delay still persists. the message said: udevadm settle - timeout of 5 seconds reached, the event queue contains: /sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/INT340E:00 (22265)

There are many acpi errors and plenty of pci errors trying to access ram above 4gb.

It would be good to update your bios if there is an update available.

Hello h2sammo
I realize this is not related to your issue in this thread, but I couldn’t help notice the list of unnecessary firmware extensions being installed during boot process.  While expected from a coreplus ISO, this is not very efficient on a HDD or USB installation IMO.
I also noticed the only firmware-rtlwifi.tcz extension I would expect to see in the onboot list is missing!  Unless wireless-rtl8822be-4.14.10-tinycore.tcz module doesn’t require a firmware blob ??

Regards

Does your machine have only nvidia graphics or does it have, for example, both nvidia and intel graphics?

What are the exact details of your nvidia hardware from "lspci"?

If you wish to troubleshoot Xorg, probably the best thing to do is to remove everything from onboot.list, boot to a console prompt and then:
Code: [Select]
$ tce-load -i Xorg-7.7 flwm wbar aterm
$ startx

If Xorg starts, check /var/log/Xorg.0.log for errors.

If Xorg doesn't start, enter "Xorg -nolisten tcp" at the console prompt and you should see some error messages.

those are all events which occur AFTER i am already in X. The delay I am talking about is before X starts, before i have a graphical interface at all.

Hi h2sammo
Are you sure? Look at time stamp  Jan 25 15:39:55,  extensions are still being loaded. I'm pretty sure that means  /etc/init.d/tc-config
is still running.

now everytime i start it tries and fails to load xorg but it defaults to vesa eventually, ...
Your messages file shows  Xvesa.tcz  being loaded but no sign of  Xorg-7.7.tcz.

Also from your messages file:
Code: [Select]
Kernel command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot9.0/vmlinuz loglevel=3 waitusb=5 showapps desktop=flwm_topside laptop tce=LABEL=data/tce9.0/ home=LABEL=data acpi_osi= syslogSince you have a persistent  home,  did you remember to remove home from your  /opt/.filetool.lst  file and then run a backup?
