Losing sleep over UTF8 vs UTF-8 ?

Looked at the LANG= variable in my ~/.profile and noticed that it was referenced with a UTF8.
Should there be a dash in between, like UTF-8? Will it matter at all? I did web grep for it, and really came up kinda short with any authoritarian view...

Doesn't matter. Lowercase or uppercase also doesn't matter.
