When
usbinstall
executed by a non root user script terminates immediately. Would be good to add a message like
"You must be a root user to install"
or something like that.

Is there any drawback to using usbinstall to install to a hdd instead of a flash drive?

It wipes your drive? And the zip option might lose some available space.

Sure but if you're looking to easily install tc to a hard drive via ext or hdd methods, are there any obvious drawbacks to using usbinstall vs.

No. It isn't as flexible, and uses a different bootloader, but for the install, no drawbacks really.
