Cannot get alsa and alsamixer to work!
(1/1)
Lassar:
I have the October dcoreplus xenial .
I used the sce tools to add alsa-modules & alsa-utils.
Something weird going on here.
Half the time when i type alsamixer from the terminal it say can't find mixer.
The other half the time it says can't find alsamixer.
I checked the /usb/bin and there is a symlink to alsamixer in alsa-utilites folder in /tmp
So alsamixer is there, but not being found.
What gives?
And how do I fix this?
Jason W:
Hi Lassar. What is the name of the alsa-modules package installed on your system?
It should be alsa-modules-4.2.9-tinycore
Thanks
Lassar:
It sounded like bash could not find the alsamixer, but turns out
alsamixer was working and it was complaining about not finding a file.
I hate it when a program does that , and does not go into further detail.
Lassar:
Yes the amixer works on alsa-modules-4.2.9-tinycore.
Did not know 4.29 refers to the kernel. I thought it was a version number and the higher the better.
Another question, since xorg takes up some much room, what is the minimal xorg to
install.
Would it be a vesa driver and xorg vesa ?
Jason W:
There are smaller versions of xorg packages available, xorg-vesa would be one. Importing xorg-vesa requires about 58 MB of files, xorg-all requires about 94 MB of files. So xorg-vesa would be the smaller. There are also smaller xorg packages including specific video cards.
Xvesa has been tried and used, at last time a few years ago it did now work at the time with dCore, but I don't know why and am willing to test it further in the future.
With dCore, very important to notice the kernel version in use, since there are several with dCore x86.
