Forum registration not possible
« on: January 05, 2018, 02:15:35 AM »
I am posting the following message on behalf of user to-be RHermsen (cf. thread "Forum notifications missing lately") under a more alarming thread title so as to hopefully raise some attention. This is what I have received by e-mail:
Quote
I saw your update on the thread. Thank you for your help. Unfortunately still no luck.

If I select 'Resend activation code' I get the message 'A new activation email has successfully been sent.', but don't receive one.

If I try to register again I get a notification that both the username and email are already in use:
The following errors were detected in your registration. Please correct them to continue:
(rhermsen) This name is already in use by another member.
That email address (------) is being used by a registered member already. If you feel this is a mistake, go to the login page and use the password reminder with that address.

If I try to login:
An Error Has Occurred!
Your email address needs to be validated before you can login. Need another activation email?

And If I try to resent my passwd:
An Error Has Occurred!
Sorry, this account has not yet been activated. If you need to resend the activation email please click here.
Can somebody jump in? Whom to contact? Thanks in advance for helping!

We have gotten a few new users today and yesterday, and there are no SMTP errors in the log during this time. So I gather the mails went out, maybe they are in a spam folder, or maybe his email provider rejected them?

Hm, I'm getting PM and thread notifications, but when I made a test account, I didn't get the mail, and it's been 1.5h. Still no errors in SMF's logs.

Thanks a lot Curaga and specifically sm8ps for helping out here.

From my side I promised on the IRC to make you aware that (forum) admins are missing on Freenode at #tinycorelinux.

Yeah, the ones who liked to IRC haven't been active for a while.

I am glad we got this issue resolved! Thanks again, Curaga!
Regarding IRC: could you, Rhermsen, occasionally have a look at the channel and link people here to the forum? This does sound far away from ideal, indeed, but it is the best I can think of.
Cheers!

@sm8ps
I don't have a pc running 24/7. (it is needed to login to capture the messages, and if you want to reply back the other person also needs to stay logged in to see the reply)
Looking what options I have to look once in a while.
