Booting from CD only gets to shell...
« on: October 27, 2016, 02:13:51 PM »
OK...first off, kind of a Linux noob.  Have done a number of machines with LinuxMint, but on the current machines I'm dealing with Mint seems a bit sluggish.  Was hoping that Tiny Core would be snappier.

So I downloaded the .iso and burned it to disk, and then proceeded to boot the machine with it.  Got the menu to select what boot option I wanted...but no matter which option I select, it only boots to the shell/terminal window.  Taunting me with a tc@box:~$ prompt.

I expected that it would boot into live CD mode, from which I could run an install.  Have tried several of the options presented on that menu screen, all of which just get me to the prompt.

The machine should be just dandy for TC - P4 with hyperthreading and 1Gb of RAM.

What am I doing wrong?

That's usually because your cd drive was somehow not detected. Can you install to USB on a different computer?
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.

Yeah, I tried the same CD on a different machine and it worked...got it installed.  Now trying to figure out how to use it :O

I might fumble my way through it...things like changing the resolution and searching for packages to install (holy crap I love the LinuxMint installer now!) seem pretty gosh darned intimidating...
