Fujitsu Lifebook U810 UMPC

The Fujitsu Lifebook U810 is a ultra portable UMPC with a Intel Processor A110 @ 800 MHz and 1 GB DDR2 RAM.
Originally it came with Windows Vista Basic (poor thing) I installed Tiny Core Linux so U810 have's some air to breath.

With no LAN port I can't download anything, I know it uses a Atheros AR5006EG and I know MadWiFi supports it.
I have no clue how to install drivers manually with the terminal.

I hope someone nice can help me.

This is a start
Eventually I want name this topic: Project Tiny Core U810 so others like myself have the know-how to install drivers for

  • Finger scanner
  • Auto-Screen-rotation
  • Intel Express 945GM

PS: Sorry if this is not the place to post the issue, I am still a rookie.

what architecture and version of tinycore are you using?

Do you have a usb port that you can use to transfer files downloaded on another machine by usb stick?

Hi Juanito,

Thank you for your reply.

I am using Version 7.2

There is one USB port present on the device.
I used that port to Boot into Tiny Core Linux to install it.

When the Atheros AR5006EG driver is installed, is TCL capable to connect to a wireless network on it's own or does it need a additional program like Wicd?
I am pretty excited about TCL, if I know how to configure TCL to a device needs, I can give every old laptop a new purpose.

So cool  ;D

tinycore has an extension named wifi that will get wifi working in most cases, providing the following are available:

* correct firmware for your wifi hardware (in some cases this is included in the driver)
* correct kernel driver for your wifi hardware

In order to correctly identify your wifi hardware, you will need either the pci-utils or usbutils extensions so that you can use the "lspci" and "lsusb" commands to identify the hardware.

If you have only one usb port and you are booting from that port, you will need to copy the required extensions onto the usb hd/usb stick you are booting from using another machine.

If you have already booted from the usb hd/usb stick, you should have a folder named tce/optional somewhere - you need to copy the extensions required into this folder. Note that you will need the following files for each extension:

extension_name.tcz
extension_name.tcz.dep (not always present)
extension_name.tcz.md5.txt

..for each extension.

If you look at the following files:

http://tinycorelinux.net/7.x/x86/tcz/pci-utils.tcz.tree
http://tinycorelinux.net/7.x/x86/tcz/usbutils.tcz.tree
http://tinycorelinux.net/7.x/x86/tcz/wifi.tcz.tree

..it will show you which extensions are required to get wifi working (there is some repetition)

I googled pci-utils.tcz and came oppon this site
ftp://distro.ibiblio.org/tinycorelinux/tcz.html

I have no clue what to do, this is all new for me.
Where can I download .tcz files?

Thank you

I downloaded the files and booted in TCL but I can't copy the three files to tce/optional.

Don't know how  :-[

The idea was to copy the files to tce/optional before you booted tinycore.

Also, as stated above, did you copy all of the extensions mentioned and their recursive deps as per the tree files (links in previous post)?

If you cannot copy in tinycore it would probably be a good idea to read a linux for newcomers book.

1. Boot the stick on a computer that has a LAN connection.
2. Use the appbrowser to install wifi.tcz.
The only barriers that can stop you are the ones you create yourself.
