Loading extensions errors
« on: April 19, 2016, 11:48:21 AM »
When I add some extensions to onboot list, I get some error messages during booting and, to be more accurate, after "Loading extensions...".

If I add alsa-modules-4.2.9-tinycore extension to onboot list:

Code: [Select]
snd_ali5451 AC'97 1 access is not valid [0xffffffff], removing mixer
snd_ali5451 0000:00:06:0: ali mixer 1 creating error

If I add libreoffice extension to onboot list, I get the same messages and some more, like:

Code: [Select]
ali1535_smbus
ali15x3_smbus
upgrade bios or use force_addr=0xaddr

When I remove both of them from the list, there is no error message.

Isn't it dangerous? Here some people wrote that updating bios can kill it.

And where to find drivers for linux? Here I see only for windows.

Thank you. The manual says that there are two ways to update bios. The first is using e-DiagTools for Windows. I don't have installed Windows. The second is using a BIOS Floppy Disk. But I don't find any package for Compaq Presario 2106EA Notebook to download from hp website.

You get very lucky.
What i can see now that i don't see first, the drivers and firmware files links directly to HP ftp site.
HP just removed the drivers and the files from there support web page.
So this should be safe.
My bad, sorry.

I made an effort with Hiren's boot mini windows XP but, as expected, there were not e-DiagTools for Windows.

Maybe I should give some more info about the error messages I wrote to initial posts.
After a while, the messages disappear and booting seems to continue properly, x starts and everything seems to be ok. The only problem I have noticed that could be relevant to this, is when I use libreoffice to open excel files. There is a cyan (the colour of the desktop) area between the leftside bar of excel window and the main part of excel display.

I have had luck updating firmware with FreeDOS, and have found that if FreeDOS won't work, the updater won't even run, so minimal chance of bricking your PC. If FreeDOS is not an option, bootdisk.com has executable images of DOS5 - probably nothing more than the files needed to boot, but that's all you're likely to need.  But you'd need a Windows installation somewhere.
