[SOLVED] what are these things called please?

Hi

Altho this is an image from a fluxbox desktop showing aterm, I am not actually interested in fluxbox or aterm itself

Can you tell me what the technical or common names for the areas highlighted please



1) I think the top one is  titlebar?

The bottom 2 I was unable to screen capture.....when your mouse hovers over those corners the mouse cursor changes to a "corner"----which allows you to resize the opened software.

2) What is the name of that feature, the corner called please?

And yes I used that resize feature to resize to aterm looking smaller so I could capture it.

PS I am building something and my skills are not great but weirdly that top area exists without Xorg running and disappears if I reboot into Xorg list.

Hi gordon64
The bottom corners are part of the  window frame  also known as the  windows border. Some apps make the corner easier
to grab by adding  resizing handles  which usually have some diagonal lines in the corner. Check out the lower right corner
of  Geany  for an example.

Are you sure your window manager is still running when you're in Xorg?  I get windows with no titlebars (nor borders) if I kill my WM.

Just woke up so will do lots of checking later now that I know what to google.

I was hoping that somehow I was not loading a particular dependency in Xorg but I think that is not true as other things are good.
Which means it might be the way I built something. I am being deliberately vague as I want to build 2 things and plan to submit at least one if it works.

 I am often wrong but I use 2 simple tricks to see I have Xorg running

cat /etc/sysconfig/Xserver  (response is xorg)
and when I run ls in a terminal I get pretty colour fonts in Xorg

If you know a better way please tell.

Yes aterm has resize handles.

I gather you are suggesting that not all apps have resize handles?

I thought it might relate to GTK stuff or maybe gdk-pixbuf2?
