« on: July 05, 2015, 01:20:14 AM »
Wanted to check out flaxpdf as an evince alternative.
It's installed, loaded, all dependencies appear met.
The info file does not indicate any special configuration requirements.
This is an x86 system, running TC 6 with Xorg and Fluxbox.
Thanks.

Code: [Select]
tc@box:~$ tce-load -i flaxpdf
flaxpdf is already installed!
tc@box:~$ flaxpdf

Works for me with icewm.
Does ldd show any errors?

Thanks for reply.
Not sure if this is what you mean, navigate to /usr/local/bin and 'ldd flaxpdf' outputs:

Thanks for the link. Already looked through similar stuff but not sure how to fix. Running 'flaxpdf' standalone or 'flaxpdf xyz.pdf' both create the error message, so it's not related to a specific pdf file or png image. I am unable to or don't know how to bypass or ignore the error, flaxpdf does not proceed to run and aterm just returns me to prompt. If i'm missing something, please let me know.

Re: flaxpdf loads but fails to launch - solved
« Reply #5 on: July 05, 2015, 03:31:38 AM »
Okay, solved the problem. Sorry about that.

Hackedbox and IceWM, same error as above.

Changed xorg.conf from 16 bit to 24 bit colour and now flaxpdf launches. Still shows this error but launches okay:
Code: [Select]
libpng warning: iCCP: known incorrect sRGB profile

So anyone else with similar issue, run in >16 bit colour mode. By comparison, Evince does not require >16 bit colours.

FlaxPDF is nice. Opens almost instantly on old hardware. Took a bit to load 160+ page Corebook.pdf  - 100% processor load for some time, single core system :) - but once loaded all the pages are ready and display briskly. Refreshing change from Evince, which takes considerably longer to launch and render pages.

Curaga - Is there any way to enable continuous mode when using Page Down key. For example when using trim or full width mode, pressing Page Down key to display the next set of lines/bottom of the page rather than just skipping to the top of the next page (miss seeing the bottom half of the pages). Otherwise lots of mouse scrolling, down arrow use or having to switching to Page view where some of the pages/print can be quite small.

Flax renders all the pages as 24-bit, so the check is to make sure they can be blitted in an optimal way, requiring no conversions. I'm not sure XRender even supports rendering from one format (24) to another (16), maybe it can, but 16-bit use is quite rare.

No support currently, will add to todo. Patches welcome ;)

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, 16 bit probably now very rare indeed - out with the old, in with the new. Just finished my morning news browsing and Firefox page scrolling is very choppy on this old system with 24 bit colour, so i will need to revert back to 16 bit and, unfortunately, probably remove FlaxPDF. It's very nice software though and was fun to trial. Sorry i do not have the necessary skills at this time to offer any patches. Take care.
