Tiny Core Base > Release Candidate Testing

Core v6.0beta1

(1/7) > >>

Juanito:
Team Tiny Core is pleased to announce that Tiny Core 6.0 Beta1 is available for public testing:

http://repo.tinycorelinux.net/6.x/x86/release_candidates/
http://repo.tinycorelinux.net/6.x/x86_64/release_candidates/

This is an beta level cut. If you decide to help test, then please test carefully. We don't want anyone to lose data.

Most extensions have been copied over from the 5.x repo - note that the fltk library has been updated to 1.3.3 to enable unicode. fltk-1.1 and 1.3 can be installed at the same time, and old apps using 1.1 will continue to work.

Although not in the base, wbarconf has been updated in the iso and wl-modules-KERNEL has been added, but not tested, due to lack of hardware (user cut firmware and blacklisting as per the info file will still be required)

We appreciate testing and feedback.

If you use distribution files note that you need a new vmlinuz and core.gz (or rootfs.gz + modules.gz)

Changelog for 6.0 beta1:
* kernel updated to 3.16.6
* glibc updated to 2.20
* gcc updated to 4.9.1 (patched)
* e2fsprogs base libs/apps updated to 1.42.12
* util-linux base libs/apps updated to 2.25.1

Zendrael:
Testing on x86... working ok till now...

Will we have an "upstream" Core with the latest Kernel in the future?

Juanito:
more "latest" than 3.16.6 you mean?

Zendrael:
I was saying something like a rolling release, following the kernel releases, as we are in the 3.17.3 right now and have a 3.18rc.

Juanito:
I'm not sure team tinycore has any plans for a kernel update between major tinycore releases unless it's to fix some kind of major bug - that being said, making your own private kernel update is not too difficult.
