Misalf:
To avoid using 915resolution.tcz with my Intel 945GME, I have this in my syslinux.cfg:

--- Code: ---UI vesamenu.c32
MENU RESOLUTION 1024 600
...

--- End code ---
This makes the linux console using the proper resolution as well.
