tce-load very slow

Having a problem where using the Apps program and tce-load is very very slow, appears to pause for a long time between each file. The repository server doesn't seem to be slow, if I use a web browser to access the tcz files directly it is fast. It seems to just be mainly tce-load program pausing or being delayed in some way. Is this a known problem? I am running it in Virtualbox.

No, not a known issue. Does it happen on all extensions or just some?

You can also try to edit the first line of tce-load to "#!/bin/sh -x" so it prints each command. Then when you do a tce-load from a terminal, you should see which command takes long.
