wifi adapter ralink rt5370
« on: October 07, 2013, 09:44:35 AM »
i am trying to make a ralink rt5370 work but cant do it yet.
i have added to startup the ralink freeware    and wifi extensions. in another distro, it worked using  the rt2800usb module.
do i need to blacklist something maybe?
thanks

as a reply to my own self and to anyone who might find this problem, i discovered that the modules seem to load OK except for a module named crc-ccitt.ko which seems to be missing.

So next challenge now is to understand where to copy this file and try to activate it with modprobe.

Not missing, built into the kernel.

hmm. is it normal that this module is not listed when I type lsmod?

well if all files are already there , then I have no idea what to do to make it work!

yes is normal,  it would only be listed if loaded.

it is probably missing firmware,  please attach a copy of the dmesg log  (or at least post the last 20 lines or so) which should show the culprit

Hi coreplayer2, thanks for your message.
Ok, here I posted some last lines from dmesg output.
I updated tinycore to version 5 since it has the extension firmware-ralinkwifi.tcz and i also added at boot wifi.tcz and wireless-3.8.10-tinycore.tcz

were you able to make it work with this setup? I found a way, but i think its a bit unofficial. Let me know if its working for you by using these 2 files please.

Support for this chip seems to have been removed from the kernel sources, so I compiled the official driver for the Ralink/MediaTek  RT5370  have sent it to Stone.Giant, if it is successful will make an extension to support these chips

Ok I got it,   perhaps we need to compile with CONFIG_RT2800USB_RT53XX
