Remote soundcard howto

(1/1)

bmarkus:
I have an interesting question where I do not have an answer yes. Hope someone knows a solution.

There is a device (a special radio tuner) connected via USB and seen as a sound card. It works fine, recognized by the system as an Alsa sound device.

There is an application which is processing the input audio using Alsa or OSS layer (/dev/dsp). The problem is, that these two must be installed in two different machines interconnected via the network, so on the second machines there must be a virtual soundcard delivering audio from the first machine.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I was already think of it. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with pulseaudio, need some digging and learning.

Here's a list giving some overview regarding network audio:

NAS might be worth looking at.
