instant notification of reply to post?
« on: November 16, 2013, 09:46:42 PM »
Hi I'm new to the forum and am confused about how to set my notifications so that whenever somebody replies to a post in a thread I start that I should get an instant email notifying me of such.  I've only started one thread/topic so far, and have gotten a reply but did not get an email notification of the reply even though I have my "Notifications" in my profile set to "For topics and boards I've requested notification on, notify me: Instantly".   Do I need to have the line "Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic" checkmarked?  I don't because I didn't think it would be necessary for me to get a notification when I post or reply, and don't quite get the point in that.  Although of course I want to be notified of when others reply to my posts/threads, as I've mentioned.  Could someone enlighten me as  I don't seem to get it. :-\      Thanks.

Read it again:
Quote
"Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic"
It says that if you reply to a topic, it automatically turns on notifications for that topic, so you'll be notified when others
post to that topic.
When posting, under  Attachments and other options  check the box labeled  Notify me of replies
When reading a topic, there is a  Notify  button next to the  Reply  button

I hadn't realized that check was even there, for one thing.

Thanks Rich.  Obviously I'm not that observant.  And wouldn't hurt for me to take the time to read through the forum help section either, where such help http://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Notifications already exists.  :-[

No problem. The best way to hide something from me is to stick it right under my nose where I'll never find it.

First place I'll try to remember to look next time.  Under my nose.  :D

By the way, I got instant email notification of your last reply here, and also instant email notifications of other replies from my one and only other thread to which I've set it that way (whoopee!!), now that I've got the settings all figured out.   Thanks again.
