A few questions from a novice user of tinycore and linux
« on: September 27, 2013, 09:15:59 PM »
Ok, so I have installed tinycore without hassle on an old pentium 4 desktop pc, which previously ran like a hairy goat when windows xp sp3 was installed. But now a couple of questions installed chromium browser but can't get flash to work :( installed get flash11 rebooted, no change, Am I missing something?
Also can't get connection to wifi to work, I installed core plus with wifi support to try and avoid this problem but no luck scan cannot find wifi network, network card cable connection however works fine. Any advice?
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance

In order for forum users to be able to help, you need to post details of your wifi hardware - use the pci-utils and/or usb-utils extensions and the "lspci" and "lsusb"commands to list pci and usb devices on your machine to be able to identify hardware.

Hi tarzan03
You could also try booting with the wired connection unplugged and see if you can then get the wireless to respond.

After some more research I decided to try a few other distro's of linux such as slitaz, lubuntu, mint etc, to find a more user friendly linux that would work without hassle for a long time windows user (dummy) such as myself. Might come back to tinycore and other such distro's when I have more experience with linux. The pc is an old optima desktop, intel 845glly mainboard with 82845 64mb intergrated graphics, 1gb sd ram 1.8ghz pentium 4 cpu, 40gb hard drive and usb ralink n150 wifi adapter. Mint 13 picked up all hardware including wifi and intel integrated graphics and runs surprisingly well on such an old machine, this will do for the time being, runs ok and is only for my 3 youngest kids to use anyway. ;)
